questions regarding ph levels

2/25/2016

So there have been MANY questions regarding the importance of my soaps and the pH level.
So I thought I would address the what and why of pH.
First of all you want your pH level in soap to be below 10. Normal pH is between 7~10, with 7 being neutral. I make my soap with Lye, and the pH of lye is 14, one good reason curing time is so critical.
Goat Milk soap contains caprylic acid which helps bring your pH close to human skin which is between 4.5 ~ 7 .
To ease your mind, I have my soaps "CURE" for a few weeks and check them with pH strips to verify they are in the "SAFE" zone.
Properly made LYE soap is not harsh, but very gentle and is a mildly cleansing product.
In a properly formulated soap recipe you can "superfat" it ,, meaning you add a small percentage of extra oils to insure that there are additional oils for the lye to react as well as extra oils to moisturize and pamper your skin
All soap is made with lye, Simply put NO LYE = NO SOAP
If you run across products that claim to be cleansers , and are not made with lye, they were "made" synthetically in a lab with chemicals and other agents.
The pH scale is used to describe the acidity and alkalinity.

SO this was a 101 on Lye and the pH scale ..
I hope this answered your basic questions on the subject of pH balance of soap and your skin.
Thanks for the questions and keep them coming !!
Till next week !!

Bamboo CHarcoal soap

Hello all :-)
New product and it is awesome. It is the Bamboo Charcoal soap and is highly regarded  and prized in Asia for its skin care benefits. It is great to use with any skin type and wonderful for oily skin :-)
This charcoal absorbs toxins , impurities and excess oil by penetrating deep into the pores. It has a gentle exfoliant to your skin and will not leave residue behind, and it has anti-bacterial and antifungal properties, the possible claims are that it great for anyone who suffers with acne, psoriasis and eczema.
When it comes into contact with water it releases many beneficial minerals, such as calcium, potassium and magnesium, creating a soothing , relaxing spa type of experience.

GIve it a try.  Let me know what you think !!

It was suggested by one of my daughters to keep some sort of a blog. I had to look up BLOG to see what it meant. I am so stuck in the 80's.
Seriously as Milli Vanilli is  playing on the Stereo.
